Furniture Won’t Fit?
We Take It Apart and Put It Back Together.
Beds, wardrobes, desks, shelving units, flat-pack — if it needs to come apart to get through a door or down a staircase, we handle it. Disassembly and reassembly is included as part of every Foosun move. No separate charge. No tools needed from you.
Included With Every Foosun Move — Not an Add-On
Most moving companies charge separately for disassembly and reassembly, or avoid it altogether. At Foosun Moving, it’s part of the job. If a piece needs to come apart to move safely — through a narrow door, down a tight staircase, around a landing — we do it as part of your move, with our tools, on our time.
There’s no separate charge and no per-piece fee. The time disassembly and reassembly takes is counted within your hourly rate, the same as any other part of the move. What you won’t get is a surprise invoice at the end because a wardrobe needed to come apart in the hallway.
You don’t need to disassemble anything before we arrive, and you don’t need to provide tools or instructions. If you’ve already taken something apart, that’s fine — we’ll transport the pieces and reassemble at the destination.
For piano disassembly (leg removal, lid, pedal lyre), see our piano movers page. For pool tables, large safes, and gym equipment, see our specialty item moving page.

How Disassembly and Reassembly Fits Into Your Move
Not a separate booking. Not a separate bill. Here’s what it looks like in practice.
Tell Us When You Book
Mention which pieces you expect will need disassembly — king beds, large wardrobes, L-shaped desks are the most common. Knowing in advance lets us bring the right tools and build the time into your estimate accurately.
We Assess Each Piece on Move Day
The crew evaluates each item against the doorways, hallways, and stairwells it needs to pass through. If something can be navigated intact safely, we’ll do it. If not, we disassemble — no surprises mid-carry.
Components Labeled and Kept Together
Every bolt, screw, and cam lock goes into a labeled bag attached to the piece it belongs to. Nothing gets mixed up between items, and nothing arrives at the destination orphaned from its hardware.
Wrapped and Loaded Safely
Disassembled panels and components are wrapped individually. Tabletops travel flat and supported. Glass panels and mirrors get corner protection and a dedicated space in the truck.
Reassembled at the Destination
We rebuild each piece in the room where it’s going. You tell us where you want it — we set it up and confirm it’s stable and correctly assembled before we leave.
On the Clock
Disassembly and reassembly time is part of your hourly rate. There’s no separate per-piece charge — but it does take time, and that time is billed the same as any other part of the move. For complex furniture or multiple large pieces, factor this into your estimate.
View Ottawa Moving RatesWhat We Can’t Safely Disassemble
We’re straightforward about this. Some furniture can’t be taken apart without causing damage — and attempting it makes things worse. If we assess a piece on move day and disassembly isn’t safe, we tell you before we try it. If you know a piece has compromised hardware or old joinery, mention it when you book.
Glued Joints
Furniture assembled with wood glue rather than hardware can’t be separated without splitting or breaking the wood.
Stripped or Seized Hardware
If screws, cam locks, or bolts are already damaged, forcing disassembly risks snapping fasteners or cracking panels.
Very Old or Antique Furniture
Aged joinery, dried wood, and period-style construction can fail under disassembly stress. We handle antiques with extra care and move them intact where possible.
Furniture Not Designed to Be Moved
Some built-in-style or single-use assembly pieces are structurally weakened once separated — the design assumes permanent installation.
Piano Disassembly
Leg removal, lid, and pedal lyre on grands — handled with piano-specific equipment. See our piano movers page.
Pool Tables, Safes, Gym Equipment
Specialty items with specific disassembly requirements. See our specialty item moving page.
When Disassembly Isn’t Possible
We discuss the best alternative. Usually that means careful wrapping and moving the piece intact — even if it requires slow, precise navigation through a tight space. If a piece genuinely can’t go through an opening without damage to the furniture or the building, we’ll tell you clearly before attempting anything.
Flat-Pack and IKEA Furniture — Handled Without the Manual
IKEA and flat-pack furniture uses standardized cam lock, dowel, and bolt hardware that our crew is familiar with across the full range — PAX wardrobes, KALLAX shelving, MALM beds, BESTA units, and the rest. We don’t need the instruction booklet, and you don’t need to find it.
For flat-pack pieces that are already assembled and need to move, we assess whether they can travel intact or need to be broken back down. Many IKEA units — particularly PAX systems and BESTA configurations — are safer transported flat than moved assembled, and we’ll tell you that honestly before we try to carry them whole.

KALLAX & BESTA

All Flat-Pack Brands

Disassembly and Reassembly Across All Move Types
This isn’t a standalone service — it’s included whenever disassembly is needed as part of any Foosun move.
Residential Moves
House, condo, and apartment moves are where disassembly comes up most often — king beds through standard doorways, wardrobes around staircase landings, L-shaped desks that can’t travel in one piece.
Office Moves
Cubicle systems, conference tables, modular workstations, and reception desks all need to come apart before the move and go back together at the new address. Standard disassembly is included in office move quotes.
Office movingInternal Moves
Moving a piece between rooms or floors within the same property often requires the same disassembly as an address change — a king bed still won’t fit up a staircase assembled.
Internal movingWhat Clients Say
“Foosun Moving company is fast and reliable. Mr. Lee went above and beyond with his service — not just moving but he helped me assemble furniture too. Extremely helpful, and very careful with your personal items. I definitely recommend Foosun to anyone I know. Also the price is very reasonable. Foosun Moving is the best I’ve hired so far.”
“The move was efficient and the movers were professionals at their job and also very pleasant to work with. The whole move went a lot faster and smoother than we imagined. They even helped assemble a few pieces of furniture we had a problem with when we said we were willing to pay for the extra time it took. Overall a very good experience — we would definitely use their service again.”
“Extremely happy with the service provided by the company! Andre and James did an awesome job moving our household items cautiously and professionally — moved items to the desired locations, and helped with disassembling and reassembling furniture. Would absolutely use Foosun Moving again.”
“We hired Foosun Moving for our office relocation in Ottawa, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. The team handled a large and detailed move that included 20 cubicles, a boardroom table, 10 file cabinets, 2 large photocopiers, 4 L-shaped desks, an adjustable table, about 80 office chairs, and around 100 computers. They managed the disassembly, transport, and reassembly very professionally.”
